This license allows individuals to provide brokerage services in the state of Maryland if affiliated with and working under the authority of a licensed broker. Licenses are granted for a two-year term beginning on the date they were issued.

Obtaining the License

Ready to get your license? - Steps, Requirements, and Documents

  1. An applicant shall be of good character and reputation.

  2. An applicant shall be at least 18 years old.

  3. An applicant shall have successfully completed a basic course in real estate approved by the Commission AND does not require more than 60 clock hours of classroom instruction or instruction provided by remote access satellite, closed–circuit video, computer, including transmission over the Internet and the World Wide Web, home study, or any other delivery system approved by the Commission.

  4. The course must also includes a 3 clock hour course in real estate ethics approved by the Commission.

  5. If approved by the Commission as an alternative, courses in real estate subjects in any college, including a 3 clock hour course in real estate ethics approved by the Commission.

  6. An applicant shall pass an examination given by the Commission under § 17-306 of this subtitle

  7. An applicant shall obtain, from a licensed real estate broker, a commitment providing that the applicant shall become affiliated with the licensed real estate broker as a real estate salesperson on the granting of a real estate salesperson license to the applicant.

  8. An applicant shall meet any other requirement that the Commission establishes to ensure that only individuals who are professionally competent and of good character and reputation are licensed.

  9. If applicant has a criminal conviction, they must request a paper application by calling 410-230-6200.

  10. Applicant shall include with the paper application and fee, a letter from the broker they will be affiliating with, acknowledging they have been made aware of the charges.

  11. Applicant shall submit a true test copy of the charges from any and all courts in which they have been convicted of a crime.

Maintaining Your License

Renewal and maintenance -

Maintaining your License (aka Related forms/requirements to maintain License/stay in good standing)

  1. Submits a renewal application on the form that the Commission provides or online.

  2. Complete 15 hours of continuing education every renewal period.

  3. Pay a renewal fee set by the Commission.
