General Info - Statewide License


Maryland Weights and Measures qualifies and licenses service agencies and technicians that repair and place into service commercially used weighing and measuring devices.

In accordance with Maryland Department of Agriculture, COMAR 15.03.11, the Department has the authority to voluntarily register individuals and agencies involved in the installation, service, repair, or reconditioning of commercial weighing and measuring devices in Maryland.  A registered Service Technician must work for a registered Service Agency.


  • Service agency registration/renewal biennial fee: $250 every two years
  • Fee for each new service technician or service technician license renewal: $75.00
  • State of Maryland Class/exam fee: $25 - NCWM exams accepted
  • For NCWM exams go to the following link https://www.ncwm.com/rsa-program. The cost of the exam is $50 for members and $100 for Non-members. You have the option of selecting an in-person proctor exam (State of Maryland $25) or a virtual proctor exam ($20).

  1. An applicant must pass a written examination for each type of weighing or measuring device the applicant intends to install, service, or repair. The current in-person exam fee is $25.

  2. Applicant must possess or have access to suitable test standards certified by a NIST-approved state laboratory.

Renewal and maintenance -

  1. A registration renewal fee of $250 must be paid every two years.

  2. Test standards must have current certification from a NIST-certified state laboratory submitted at least once every two years.
