Maryland license issued by the Secretary to any business that performs pest control work. Each place of business performing pest control shall be licensed in those categories in which it operates.

Obtaining the License

Ready to get your license? - Steps, Requirements, and Documents

  1. Designate an individual who is certified in those categories for which the business is licensed.

  2. Meet the requirements for minimum financial responsibility for bodily injury and property damage by carrying liability insurance and furnishing to the department a certificate of insurance.

  3. Keep on file a Certificate of Insurance with the MDA.

Maintaining Your License

Renewal and maintenance -

Maintaining your License (aka Related forms/requirements to maintain License/stay in good standing)

  1. Attend annual recertification training and provide proof of attendance.

  2. Obtain the required number of credits annually based on applicator's category.

  3. MDA is utilizing an online system for renewals. In order to log onto the site, you need your business license/permit number and a code found on the renewal information card. If you do not have access to an internet connection, you may call (410) 841-5710 and request a paper application.

Purpose

Why the License is required?

The Pesticide Regulation Section administers Maryland's Pesticide Applicator's Law, approves training courses in the handling, storage and use of pesticides, conducts examinations to determine that pesticide applicators are competent to follow prescribed pest control practices, enforces federal laws on the sale and use of pesticides, and investigates pesticide accidents or incidents and consumer complaints on pesticide misuse.
