Two year license earned by examination or reciprocity that allows an individual to practice hair styling in the state of Maryland.

Must be at least 17 years of age and have completed 9th grade or G.E.D.
Applicant must submit proof of completion of 1,200 hours of training in a cosmetology school or 15 months as a registered apprentice in a licensed beauty salon.

Why the License is required?
The Maryland Board of Cosmetologists qualifies and licenses individuals seeking licensure and issues permits to business entities through which cosmetology is practiced. The Board also establishes health and safety standards for the operation of beauty salons and trade schools.
