General Info - Statewide Registration

The purpose of this program is to reduce childhood lead poisoning and maintain affordable housing in the state of Maryland. If not detected early, children with high levels of lead in their bodies can suffer from hyperactivity, slowed growth, damage to their brain and nervous system, hearing problems and headaches.

Property owners with rental units constructed prior to 1978 are required to register with MDE unless the unit has a valid lead free inspection certificate.

  2. Rental property owners must distribute tenant educational materials upon execution of leases to new tenants and redistribute every two (2) years thereafter
