A journeyman license is issued by the Board to allow the licensee to provide heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration services while under the direction and control of a licensed heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration master contractor in the state of Maryland.

Must have been licensed as an apprentice for at least three years and during that period must have completed at least 1,875 hours of training in providing HVACR services under the direction and control of a licensed HVACR contractor;

Pass the journeyman examination with a score of 70;

Purpose
Why the License is required?
The Maryland Board of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) Contractors licenses and regulates individuals who provide commercial and residential HVACR services pursuant to the provisions of Business Regulation Article 9A, Annotated Code of Maryland, and COMAR 09.15. The Board is also authorized to adopt applicable regulations for the provision of HVACR services, including codes and minimum standards for the installation, alteration, remodeling, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The Board investigates complaints against licensees and complaints related to unlicensed practice. The Board may pursue disciplinary charges against an individual for violations of applicable laws or regulations, conduct hearings and, if warranted, impose administrative sanctions including suspension or revocation and/or assess a civil penalty up to $5,000 for each violation of a law and regulation.
