General Info - Statewide Certification


This certification assures the reliability of the Safe Drinking Water Act compliance samples submitted to state of Maryland certified laboratories.

Performing the required sampling and testing of public water systems is the primary means of evaluating the safety of the drinking water supply. Classes will be open to all interested parties as space is available, but priority will be given to persons who are collecting drinking water samples for compliance under the Safe Drinking Water Act, including water plant operators, laboratory employees, water system employees, State/County Health Department employees, and well drillers).

Obtaining the Certification

Ready to get your certification? - Steps, Requirements, and Documents

  1. Attend the certification class. For class scheduling and registration at the Department, please visit MRWA's website.

  2. At the end of the four-hour certification class, an examination is given. Upon passing the examination, the applicant is issued a certification card.
