General Info - Statewide Certification


This certification is required for anyone born on or after July 1, 1972 and want to purchase a boating license in the state of Maryland. Classes can be found on the DNR Website

Online courses are also acceptable if they are a NASBLA approved course. Replacement certificates can be requested through the Safety Education office at 410-643-8502, or by email tiffaney.palmatary@maryland.gov.

  1. Pass the Maryland Boating Equivalent Exam. Failure to pass the examination after two attempts will require a student to attend a classroom course in order obtain the Certificate of Boating Safety Education.
