SOS Charities Initial Registration Form


Online registration/filing portal for charitable organizations that solicit charitable contributions in Maryland.

 

A charitable organization soliciting charitable contributions must complete this form to solicit charitable contributions in Maryland. This system will assist charitable organizations in filing correctly by being responsive to the answers of the charitable organization. As the charitable organization answers questions, it will take the organization on the appropriate path to complete its registration/filing to solicit charitable contributions in Maryland.

Review the steps - read carefully

  1. Complete the filing form for charitable organizations.
  2. Answer all questions.
  3. The form will use your answers to determine what additional information and documentation is required to complete the registration/filing.
  4. If an organization does not receive more than $25,000 in charitable contributions for the year being reported, it will complete the information required by the Exempt Organization Fund-Raising Notice form. If this organization has an IRS Tax Determination letter, it will be required to attach it as part of this filing. If the organization completes a 990 or 990-EZ, it will be required to attach it as part of this filing.
  5. If the organization receives more than $25,000 in charitable contributions for the year being reported, it will complete the information required by the COR-92 form. This organization will need to submit a financial report; current board of directors list; a copy of the organization’s Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, or other governing instrument; a copy of the organization’s IRS Tax Determination letter or IRS Form 1023; copies of contracts with professional solicitor(s) or fund-raising counsel(s), if applicable; an audit or financial review, if required; and a registration fee in the range of $50 to $300. What Happens After Submission

Read carefully

  1. The Secretary of State's Office will review your submission. If the registration application/filing form is complete and contains all required items and information, the Charity Division will approve the registration/filing and you will receive a system generated email confirming compliance from OneStop, which you will want to save for your records. If there is required information that is missing, the Charity Division will send your registration application/filing form back to you to make the revisions, at which time, you will receive a system generated email from OneStop explaining what is needed.
